Innermost

A mold made of cardboard in the technique of papier-mâché, 45X70 cm, 2018.

This work was inspired by a sentence in a letter that I received from my father many years ago: "Do words have the capacity to express the shadow of a shadow of the innermost part of the heart?" This poetic rhetorical question was sent to me from afar with echoes of a distant and romantic world, so very different from the world we live in today. It stands in sharp contrast to the texts and posts written on the various social networks that utilize the most direct and spare language. I chose the single word "innermost" from this sentence and created a mold made of cardboard in the technique of papier-mâché with the letters inscribed within.

I imprinted the word "innermost", denoting intimacy and introversion into a simple commonly used material frequently employed for wrapping and protecting objects. I associate this sentence with my work as an artist. I feel that the processing of personal experiences in the innermost part of the heart requires a tangible, concrete aesthetic expression. For me, emotional processing can not be satisfied with the abstraction of words.
