Great Look

The exhibition Great Look was presented at the Artist House in Tel-Aviv in the winter of 2020-2021. This exhibition was presented in conjunction with the work of artist Orna Degani in an exhibition entitled Nehederet. Both exhibitions complement one another, echoing an archetypal theme.

The curator of both exhibitions, Dana Gilerman, wrote:

"The two exhibitions engage, each in their own way, in presenting the complex relationship between parent and child. In the case of Goldfinger, the focus was on her late father, specifically his accompanying look. The work of both artists represents their unresolved relationship with a parent; for both the starting point is the photographic image taken from a family album. At the heart of Goldfinger's exhibition are two monochromatic photographs portraying father and daughter. The images are placed one in front of the other, printed on large strips which divide the faces, thereby disassembling and reassembling the images. The father's look juxtaposed against the daughter's quiescence is accentuated by a pattern from an old fashioned coloring book. Along with the portraits, Goldfinger displays a series which disassembles and reassembles the father's face, as well as a series of images of the daughter in segments consisting of glass colors and tracing paper. The segmented images of both the father and daughter face one another reflecting a relationship that gradually fades away. What remains present and unrelenting is the intense and complex impression of the father's look. Two other objects occupy the space – the work Innermost, and a cardboard box –called Transition, composed of layers of material which represent shards of memory from different times and places."
