Childhood

2016, Glass colors and permanent markers on transparency, different sizes

These works are part of a series created in recent years, which is based on photographs from childhood albums. These are images resembling stained-glass windows, which were produced by combining manual techniques and simple materials with more complex materials and processes. The patterns in these works were borrowed from a children’s coloring book. These images constitute an attempt to capture an elusive childhood experience. They do not capture important moments, but rather childhood experiences involving attention to an inner world, with no awareness of an external gaze. The figure is suspended in a liminal state between presence and reverie, the outside world and the world of interiority. The meditative repetition of the patterns filling the frame underscores the experience of suspension between reality and a dream state, while simultaneously fragmenting the whole. The first version of these works were exhibited in 2017 (Artspace, Tel Aviv). Afternoon served as the basis for a site-specific installation that was commissioned for the Bat-Sheva Hotel in Jerusalem, where it is on permanent display.
